Introducing Myself Again

 



Hello, my name is Mila Rakic and I am a student attending Fort Lauderdale High School. I am currently 15 years old and in my sophomore year of high school. I decided to take this class because I really enjoy filmmaking for fun. Ever since I was little I've always been fascinated with people filming and editing videos to create amazing finished products. I used to spend a lot of time as a kid on YouTube and on T.V. watching different people, places, and things. This interest in film has only gotten stronger the past year with me being quarantined in my house due to COVID-19. I would watch a lot of YouTube videos on my laptop to cure my boredom, and many of those videos are usually made by kids my age. Having nothing to do anyway, I turned to filming and editing videos of myself as well, creating sort of knock-off YouTube videos. I filmed many things, ranging from daily vlogs, videos of me doing my makeup, videos of my practicing volleyball, and the list goes on and on. Of course, I didn't actually post the videos anywhere, in fact, I only really showed them to some of my closest friends and family. But others watching my films wasn't what really excited me anyways. What I enjoyed the most was the process of actually making them. I loved everything from figuring out what shots I wanted to get, to sitting in my room and editing the clips. Even though making those short 5-10 minute videos took hours of filming and editing, I always thought it was worth it. I am hopeful that this class will teach me what it takes to be an outstanding filmmaker. I'm looking to expand my knowledge of how to make quality videos. With that said, I want to become better at planning, shooting, and editing the clips afterward. In fact, if I am actually able to better my skills, I would definitely want to create more of those videos I used to make. This time, I would even consider posting them! In addition to the YouTube videos, I would love to take on other video-making platforms, such as TikTok for example. I definitely want to create a social media platform based on creating video content, and I hope this class can lead me in that direction.

Plans Gone Wrong

My group and I were supposed to start filming at minimum one day this weekend. My team and I had planned to get started on our film and finish at least a couple of the first clips. If not, it would at least provide a feel for how filming is going to go. Unfortunately, this was not able to be successfully done. It soon came up that my peers and I had previous commitments that weekend, which were not able to be postponed. For example, my mom told me when I got home that we would be visiting my friend out of state that weekend. I would be gone from that Friday night to the next Sunday morning. This left me no time to film since it would be too complicated to film on a school night. This is because I live so far away from everyone else in my group. Storyboard for Time for Dinner

Scene 1: The first five seconds will show clouds going down with "...Presents" and "...Production Company."  Scene 2: The next scene is a tracking shot of a very vibrant neighborhood with the actors' names.  Scene 3: The camera gets closer to a house and shows the film's name. Scene 4: The camera goes into the house slowly. Scene 5: The camera continues throughout the house that looks very put together. Scene 6: The kitchen is a little messy-looking and says "The Music by..." Scene 7: Two girls are shown talking muted as the "Directed by.." is displayed. They are stiff.   Scene 8: Sara grabs a chair and sits as she says her first line stiffly. Scene 9: This is a close-up shot of Lynn and she says her first line very smiley. She has a lot of makeup on.  Scene 10: The camera turns to Sara as she says her next line wearing a lot of makeup. The Editing has Officially Begun

We finally finished filming all of the clips necessary for our film. The last couple of things we had to do included getting Nicole to record a couple more missing scenes at home with her tripod. After this was done, we were finally completely done with filming for this project. We were able to start on the editing immediately. One of the first things I did was record myself screaming. This was so I could add it in as a voice-over over one of the scenes. Before I could do this though, I had to make sure of some things. I made sure that I did it around the middle of the day when most people were awake. This is because I live in an apartment complex, so I didn't want to upset my neighbors. I also didn't want to upset my own family by yelling too early or late in the day. I also told my family to not be alarmed by my scream because I had to record it for a project and I told them to stay quiet during it so their voices wouldn't be heard in the background.
