Introduction Blog

 


Hello, my name is Mila Rakic. I'm a 15-year-old sophomore student at Fort Lauderdale High School. I'm currently taking AICE AS level Media Studies. I have been enrolled in this class for the past almost 6 months and boy have I learned a lot. My knowledge of analyzing and creating films has grown tremendously since I began taking this class. In my time here, I have made progress in multiple areas of the class. First of all, my range of film terms has greatly expanded. I can more efficiently understand the filmmaking process. In addition to this, I have learned how to apply all of those words when creating films. For example, I know how to film using different camera angles, shots, and movements. I know how to correctly incorporate costumes, lighting, acting, makeup, props, and setting into certain shots. Finally, I know how sound and editing can shape a scene and how to efficiently apply them to the film. Now that I have learned all about these aspects of filmmaking, I am so excited to be able to implement them into my final project. I feel as though this final project will be fun and enjoyable as opposed to stressful. This is because as I have been taught more and more about filmmaking, it has become more and more enjoyable to do my work in this course. In my opinion, it is way more interesting to create and understand films when you know much of the content. Now that I have learned as much as I have, I'm super excited to put all my knowledge to use in this project. I feel as though I know more now than I have known in my previous projects. With this being said, I can't wait to see what I will be able to create in these next couple of months. I have high expectations for this project and am close to certain that they will be met.

Plans Gone Wrong

My group and I were supposed to start filming at minimum one day this weekend. My team and I had planned to get started on our film and finish at least a couple of the first clips. If not, it would at least provide a feel for how filming is going to go. Unfortunately, this was not able to be successfully done. It soon came up that my peers and I had previous commitments that weekend, which were not able to be postponed. For example, my mom told me when I got home that we would be visiting my friend out of state that weekend. I would be gone from that Friday night to the next Sunday morning. This left me no time to film since it would be too complicated to film on a school night. This is because I live so far away from everyone else in my group. By the time I got home from filming, I wouldn't be able to have enough time to sleep before I woke up at 6 the next morning. Therefore, I had to let my team know I couldn't make it that weekend. Storyboard for Time for Dinner

Scene 1: The first five seconds will show clouds going down with "...Presents" and "...Production Company."  Scene 2: The next scene is a tracking shot of a very vibrant neighborhood with the actors' names.  Scene 3: The camera gets closer to a house and shows the film's name. Scene 4: The camera goes into the house slowly. Scene 5: The camera continues throughout the house that looks very put together. Scene 6: The kitchen is a little messy-looking and says "The Music by..." Scene 7: Two girls are shown talking muted as the "Directed by.." is displayed. They are stiff.   Scene 8: Sara grabs a chair and sits as she says her first line stiffly. Scene 9: This is a close-up shot of Lynn and she says her first line very smiley. She has a lot of makeup on.  Scene 10: The camera turns to Sara as she says her next line wearing a lot of makeup. The Editing has Officially Begun

We finally finished filming all of the clips necessary for our film. The last couple of things we had to do included getting Nicole to record a couple more missing scenes at home with her tripod. After this was done, we were finally completely done with filming for this project. We were able to start on the editing immediately. One of the first things I did was record myself screaming. This was so I could add it in as a voice-over over one of the scenes. Before I could do this though, I had to make sure of some things. I made sure that I did it around the middle of the day when most people were awake. This is because I live in an apartment complex, so I didn't want to upset my neighbors. I also didn't want to upset my own family by yelling too early or late in the day. I also told my family to not be alarmed by my scream because I had to record it for a project and I told them to stay quiet during it so their voices wouldn't be heard in the background.
