Title Research: Scary Stories to tell in the Dark


While searching for another movie title to research, we came across the movie 'Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. We watched over the sequence a few times, looking to answer a few questions we had previously planned. The first question being, how many titles were revealed and what were they. What we noticed as we watched was that there were about 30 different titles that came across the screen. Usually one at a time but occasionally doubling up, they premiered things such as the director, producers, costume designers, casting directors, actors/actresses, etc. We also wondered what tone was provided with each title. When providing the titles, they used "scary" fonts in red and black colors all around. It looked as though there was blood dripping everywhere and many sketchy shadows looming around. We believe it was meant to prepare viewers for what the film will be and build up fear before anything began. Next, we had to decide whether or not the sequence had a good representation of its genre. The genre of this film is technically a thriller. However, watching the opening title sequence made it seem as if the film was more specifically a horror film. It didn't cause adrenaline or a build-up of distress. But it gave off uneasy vibes which we personally felt did not fit the thriller theme too well. Although the screening felt very repetitive and boring to watch. We felt that it could still appeal to its targeted audience. Horror and thriller play into each other a ton and thriller audiences are likely to enjoy terror along with distress during a film. The sequence didn't completely discount its genre being a thriller. We still all felt as though it provided somewhat of an anxiety-inducing environment. This wasn't our favorite sequence to watch but it will definitely help our process in the future.

Plans Gone Wrong

My group and I were supposed to start filming at minimum one day this weekend. My team and I had planned to get started on our film and finish at least a couple of the first clips. If not, it would at least provide a feel for how filming is going to go. Unfortunately, this was not able to be successfully done. It soon came up that my peers and I had previous commitments that weekend, which were not able to be postponed. For example, my mom told me when I got home that we would be visiting my friend out of state that weekend. I would be gone from that Friday night to the next Sunday morning. Storyboard for Time for Dinner

Scene 1: The first five seconds will show clouds going down with "...Presents" and "...Production Company."  Scene 2: The next scene is a tracking shot of a very vibrant neighborhood with the actors' names.  Scene 3: The camera gets closer to a house and shows the film's name. Scene 4: The camera goes into the house slowly. Scene 5: The camera continues throughout the house that looks very put together. Scene 6: The kitchen is a little messy-looking and says "The Music by..." Scene 7: Two girls are shown talking muted as the "Directed by.." is displayed. The Editing has Officially Begun

We finally finished filming all of the clips necessary for our film. The last couple of things we had to do included getting Nicole to record a couple more missing scenes at home with her tripod. After this was done, we were finally completely done with filming for this project. We were able to start on the editing immediately. One of the first things I did was record myself screaming. This was so I could add it in as a voice-over over one of the scenes. Before I could do this though, I had to make sure of some things. I made sure that I did it around the middle of the day when most people were awake. This is because I live in an apartment complex, so I didn't want to upset my neighbors. I also didn't want to upset my own family by yelling too early or late in the day. I also told my family to not be alarmed by my scream because I had to record it for a project and I told them to stay quiet during it so their voices wouldn't be heard in the background.
