Reflecting on the Project

1. My product used conventions in multiple ways. For example, just like in the rest of the Post-it commercials, the commercial included someone writing on the Post-it note with a pen. Also, the video included a clip of someone sticking the note to a surface just like many other commercials for this product do. The reason this was included in the video is because my group and I felt like these types of clips show the usefulness of the product in everyday life really well. The commercial when it comes to the product in general represents no specific social group, just anyone who needs sticky notes to write on. However, the message of our specific commercial represents those who are sad and in need of some kindness. It represents the issue of depression/sadness. This is seen when there is a clip of a sad child at the beginning of the commercial, but he gets happy after a Post-it note is given to him.

2. My product engages with the audience by including music right at the beginning of the video. Also, the very first clip of a character taking the Post-it note off the camera lens is a sort of surprise and not very common in commercials. This should work to grab the audience's attention right off the bat and keep them interested in the video. The commercial would be distributed as a real media text by being shown on T.V. in between shows, on YouTube before, during, or after videos, and on social media sites such as Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. Additionally, the commercial could be shown on some websites, with the video playing somewhere off to the side of the screen, as I've seen been done before.

3. My production skills have developed throughout this project in many ways. First of all, I've learned about many different vocabulary terms ranging from the different types of shots, angles, movements, technology and editing terms, etc. Also, I have learned way more about how to actually film, like that the camera should be at different angles in order to achieve different types of shots to increase the aesthetic of the video. I've also actually put those angles to use for the first time while filming. I've learned more about how to manage the editing portion of it. I've learned how to make the transitions less choppy and a quicker way to add music to videos. I've also gotten better at planning before actually filming and I've seen how much of a difference it makes. Finally, I've learned about what goes into making commercials, specifically when it comes to figuring out how to make the videos look appealing to the audience.

4. I integrated technologies into this project in a variety of ways. First of all, I used my own phone to film the shots that would be used in the video and also used my phone to edit the commercial. This has actually helped me uncover many ways to use different applications on my phone that I wasn't aware of before. I've used my laptop when writing the blogs. I've also used my friend's laptop to write a blog once. Since she has an Apple laptop and I don't, I've learned a lot about how to manage things on those types of computers as well.
