Filming with COVID

Today was the day we finished filming. It was quite hard to find a time we could all use for filming, and it took weeks to find the right day. Still, we managed to all come together and clear away our schedules for today. All we had left to record were the clips of the boy and girl hanging out together and the one where the boy knocks at the girl's door. Unfortunately, I tested positive for COVID-19 about a week before this. Therefore, I wasn't able to physically come to the filming session. Luckily, I was able to join virtually through a facetime call. This way, I could still see and be a part of everything that was going on while not posing a health risk. Other than this, the rest of the filming went pretty well in my opinion. We ran into a few little bumps on the road while recording, but nothing too serious. For example, Cole, our male character stepped in dog poop on the sidewalk while we were shooting. Also, some scenes took multiple retakes because it was hard for our actors to stay in character. We also accidentally forgot that Cole needed to have a costume change for the two different scenes and we weren't prepared with another outfit. The important part of it all is that we were still able to overcome these small challenges and figure out solutions to everything. For Cole stepping in dog poop during the scene, Dara, our female character, laughed and we liked how it made the clip look happy and cheerful. Therefore, we decided it was even better than our original idea and kept that clip instead. For the scenes where the actors couldn't stay in character and kept laughing, we just kept retaking the scenes. Before having to take the final scene, we paused for a couple seconds for them to collect themselves and got through the scene with no problems. Finally, for the issue where there wasn't a second costume for Cole to change into, he ended up being able to change into Dara's hoodie, so it worked out fine. All in all, it was a fun day of filming that I feel helped me grow as a filmmaker.
