Filming Blog
Day 1:
On 9/29/2021 we began filming clips for the first time. We agreed to use my phone because it had the best camera. After this, we decided to go to the courtyard first because there were fewer people there. This way, it would be easier to not get others in our shots. One of the shots we filmed was an over-the-shoulder shot where Nicole, acting as a little girl, opened the lunchbox to reveal the post-it note. We were going to film this shot on the ground in an area in the shade but decided not to. We agreed that by filming her sitting at a table in the sun, we would get better lighting and a nicer, higher angle. Since this was the first shot we filmed, we had to refilm it a couple times until we got the hang of it. By the third try though, we understood how everything was going to work and we knew exactly what to do. For another shot, Violet was going to play a little boy at Nicole's school. We used my oversized green jacket to dress Violet in so she resembled more of a boy. We then moved to the front of the media stairs, where we would shoot the rest of our scenes. An ROTC class was occupying the area we planned to use, so we turned the corner and moved over to another wall to film in front of. We eventually ran into some trouble when trying to film a transition between two shots. Luckily, we were able to figure out how to film it correctly and after many failed attempts, we finally succeeded. We also took a couple minutes trying to figure out what the best way to set the post-it notes up was. They were supposed to be in the shape of a heart, but it was surprisingly harder than we thought to set them up nicely. After everything was done and we (thought we) were finished filming, we realized one of Nicole's previous shots showed her lanyard in it, which had logos on it, so we wouldn't be able to use the shot. With about 10 minutes left, we rushed back to the courtyard and refilmed the scene with her lanyard out of the shot this time. We managed to finish right on time, with 5 minutes left to head back to class.
